Computer Based Testing at the CTC
Computer Based Testing is administered by and housed within the Counseling & Testing Center.

Hours/Days of operation*:
Testing for GRE/PRAXIS is open Monday through Thursday, and selected Fridays during the Academic calendar year. Reporting times are always at 8:15 a.m. Occasionally high demand will result in limited afternoon or weekend sessions. This is typically during the months of November and December. We are closed most holidays and the schedule may vary over holiday breaks (e.g., Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring break).

Registration/Cancellation/Reschedule: You are able to register, cancel or reschedule through U of I CTC - Monday - Friday, 8:00-5:00pm or through ETS - 5:00am - 5:00pm, Monday – Saturday. Note that there are limitations on rescheduling as you near the scheduled testing date. *See phone numbers below

Acceptable forms of payment:
MasterCard, Visa, American Express, personal check, money order - CASH is not accepted.
Methods of Registration:
Phone: Call the 800 number for each test or call the CBT at 885-5138. If no answer, call the Counseling & Testing Center at 885-6716. A credit card or voucher is required. A voucher is obtained by mailing the registration form to ETS.
Walk-in: Register in person with a check, money order, credit card or voucher by coming to the testing office in the Counseling & Testing Center in CEB 301.
Mail: Register by mail directly with ETS if paying by check, money order or fee waiver. ETS will provide you with a voucher. After the voucher is received, call the CBT or the main 800 number for the designated test to schedule a date and time.
WEB: Register on-line at the programs web site (www.gre.org or www.ets.org/praxis).
When registering, you will be asked to give the following information:
- e-mail address
- Date you would like to test
- Full Name (as it appears on your identification)
- Address
- Phone
- Birth date
- Credit Card Number (including security code) & Expiration
Date (if you use that method of payment)
- You will need to arrive at your reporting time (typically no later than 8:15 a.m.), not your testing time. The reporting time allows time for check in so that you can actually start your test on time.
- Calculators are not allowed but scratch paper and pencils are provided.
- There are small lockers if you bring a backpack or any food/beverage.

The GMAT has changed test delivery vendors and is no longer available at our site.

GRE(Graduate Records Exam)

Costs:
$150 - General Test $50 – Reschedule fee $20 - Additional score report per recipient
- Reschedule - only available up to 3 full days (npt including the day of the test or the day of your request) prior to scheduled test
- Identification Requirements – 2 forms of ID, at least 1 with a photo (driver's license, school ID, military ID, etc.). If you are testing outside your country of citizenship you must present your passport. For details click here.
- You are able to take the GRE one time per calendar month and a maximum of 5 times in any 12 month period.
A limited number of GRE fee reduction vouchers are available for college seniors and unenrolled college graduates who meet eligibility requirements. Click here for more information.

$130 - Combined Tests (all 3 in one registration/day)
$80 - One test

$15 - Reschedule fee for each test
- Reschedule - only available up to 3 full days prior to the day of first scheduled test (e.g., to reschedule a test on Friday you must do so by the preceeding Monday).
- Identification Requirements – Photo ID You must present photo identification with name, photograph, and signature in order to test. Your name as given at the time you register for the test must match the name on the ID you present at the test center. Acceptable identification includes a current photo driver's license, photo employment ID, current passport, military identification, or photo student ID accompanied by an additional photo or signature ID. (Photo credit cards or check cashing cards are not acceptable.)
- Acceptable alternative ID documents If you are a college student, have the dean's office affix your photo to college stationery and impress the school seal over your picture. The paper must be signed by you and the dean - or - affix a recent photo to white paper. Sign the paper and have the signature notarized. The seal must overlap the photo.
- You may take each Praxis test only once per calendar month, up to 6 times per 12-month period (July-June)
- This is PRAXIS I: Pre-Professional Skills Assessments (PPST®) which are designed to measure basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
- The PRAXIS II: Subject Assessment tests measure knowledge of specific subjects that K-12 educators will teach, as well as general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge. There are Subject Assessments, Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) Tests and Teaching Foundations Tests and are given on paper & pencil. TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language)
The TOEFL has changed to the NG-TOEFL and is only offered on specific dates and times. Under this new format, candidates must register on-line, by calling 1-800-GO-TOEFL (1-800-468-6335), or by mail.
